Letters, soundscribers, notes and memos concerning preparations made for the opening of the Old Manse Library, Newcastle, N.B. Subjects discussed include: the hiring of Barbara J. Gandy as librarian; the selection of books, furnishings, supplies and other equipment for the library; and the proposed donation of money from C.F. Rhodes in memory of his wife, Elsie Whitney Rhodes, a Newcastle native, to be applied towards the purchase of books. The file also contains a suggested list of furnishings needed for the library as well as a suggested list of periodicals, both compiled by Gandy and revised by Lord Beaverbrook.
